Serbian newspaper Nova reports that the US Embassy in Belgrade asked Serbia’s Supreme Public Prosecutor’s Office to take back two Nissan Qashqai cars from the Belgrade Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office, known as VJT. The vehicles were donated several years ago to the Special Department for Combating Corruption, or POSK.
According to Nova, the cars held by the VJT, headed by Nenad Stefanović, were allegedly not used for the POSK purposes for which they had been donated. The newspaper says they were used “exclusively for the personal convenience” of people who received them.
Nova says the embassy contacted the Supreme Public Prosecutor’s Office, which the report describes as the body authorized to handle international cooperation, communication and legal assistance between Serbia and the United States. The embassy reportedly requested that both Nissan Qashqai vehicles be immediately removed from the VJT and redirected, again as a donation, to another POSK unit.
