An 80-year-old man, Abdul Hamid Jaafar, died in a house fire in Malaysia’s Raub district. The fire broke out at a home in Kampung Kuala Dong, along Jalan Masuk Gesing, the previous night. The report says he was trapped inside and could not get out.
Mohd Salahuddin Isa, an assistant director of operations for Pahang’s Fire and Rescue Department, said emergency services received a call at 9:56 p.m. Firefighters from the Raub station arrived at 10:20 p.m.; the location is about 23 kilometers from the station.
The blaze damaged about 80 percent of the semi-permanent house, which measured roughly 40 by 60 feet. The operation ended at 2:13 a.m. The man is believed to have died from heat exposure; the cause of the fire and the amount of the losses remain under investigation.
