France's student protest movement expanded on Wednesday, September 30, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said at a news conference. His count recorded disruptions at 356 schools, while he also reported rising violence in some locations.
Nuñez cited confrontations involving staff and intrusions at a high school in Rennes and another in Lyon. Police made 625 arrests, and 83 members of the security forces were injured.
France's internal police watchdog, the IGPN, opened three investigations after students were injured during school blockades. Nuñez said law-enforcement officers had acted proportionately.
The government is also seeking to ease tensions. The education minister announced a consultation platform opening on Monday, where students will be able to contribute. Officials also plan a national event to gather the results and prepare structured responses to students' demands, concerns and questions.
