Grafing mayor Christian Bauer dies after collapsing at town hall

Christian Bauer, Grafing’s first mayor in Upper Bavaria, died after collapsing during a meeting at the town hall. A city employee said emergency responders treated him there on Tuesday evening and took him to hospital, but he could not be saved.

Bauer was born in 1969 and belonged to the Christian Social Union (CSU). He had served as first mayor since 2020. Before that, he worked as Grafing’s municipal treasurer for more than two decades.

He was returned to office in March’s local election with nearly 61 per cent of the vote. Following his sudden death, the town administration must determine how its work will continue.

Grafing, a municipality of nearly 14,000 residents, has two other deputy mayors. They will initially conduct municipal business. An early election will then be held to choose a new first mayor.
