Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry called repeated entries into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem a serious breach of international law and the historical and legal status quo. In a statement on Wednesday, it condemned the latest incident, which it said took place on Sept. 28.
According to the ministry, more than 1,000 Israeli settlers and senior Israeli officials led by the national security minister entered the compound under the protection of Israeli forces.
Malaysia said it viewed these actions not as isolated provocations but as part of continuing efforts to alter the identity and character of Al-Aqsa and occupied East Jerusalem. The ministry said the sanctity of Al-Haram Al-Sharif and Muslim worshippers’ religious rights must be respected and protected.
Kuala Lumpur urged the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take immediate and concrete steps. Malaysia reaffirmed solidarity with Palestinians and their right to self-determination, and repeated its support for an independent Palestinian state on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
