Investigators say a luxury apartment worth 60 million Hong Kong dollars was at the centre of the alleged motive. Choi’s former husband and relatives have pleaded not guilty.
A murder trial is continuing in Hong Kong over the killing of model and socialite Abby Choi, with The Standard reporting further details. Choi disappeared on February 21, 2023, and her remains were found two days later at a house in Lung Mei village in the Tai Po district.
Her former husband, Alex Kwong, was arrested the day after the discovery. His father, Kwong Kau, and brother, Anthony Kwong, were also arrested. Choi and Alex had two children. After their divorce in 2015, his parents cared for the children much of the time.
In 2019, Choi bought a central Hong Kong apartment for 60 million Hong Kong dollars for the children and her former in-laws. It was registered under Kwong Kau’s name. In 2022, she decided to sell it and buy a home near the school the children were to attend. She also proposed that Kwong Kau and his wife move, but they refused.
Prosecutors allege that Kwong Kau and Alex killed Choi to keep the property. Both have pleaded not guilty and the trial is ongoing. Choi came from a wealthy family and was known as a fashion figure who appeared in L’Officiel, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue and wrote about shows on her blog.
