Al-Masirah reported that Ansar Allah had taken Al-Maafir and Al-Mawasit and a former residence of Presidential Council head Rashad al-Alimi.
Yemen’s Ansar Allah movement, also known as the Houthis, said it had taken control of Al-Maafir and Al-Mawasit districts in Taiz province in the country’s southwest. Al-Masirah carried the statement, which was cited by RIA Novosti.
The movement said its forces had driven opposing forces from the districts. The Houthis also claimed to have seized a former residence of Rashad al-Alimi, head of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council.
The report offered no independent confirmation of control over the areas. The claim comes amid fighting around Taiz and advances by opposing sides on different fronts. The reported change in control should therefore be treated as the Houthis’ account.
