Indonesia’s Baznas distributes 875 food packages for displaced Gazans

The Indonesian zakat agency says the meals are intended for about 3,500 people. Each package contains a large tray of rice and a whole chicken for a family of four.

Indonesia’s National Alms Agency, Baznas, has distributed 875 ready-to-eat food packages intended for about 3,500 Palestinians displaced by the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the ANTARA news agency reported. Baznas chair Sodik Mudjahid said the aid was meant to help residents meet food needs that remain difficult to satisfy.

Each package consists of a large tray of rice and a whole chicken, enough for one family of four, Mudjahid said. The distribution includes people in northern Gaza. He described food assistance as a priority while families struggle to obtain basic necessities.

Mudjahid said the operation was part of Baznas’ effort to channel zakat, infak and sedekah contributions from Indonesian donors to people in need. He said the agency was working to direct assistance to communities affected by the humanitarian crisis.

Recipients quoted by ANTARA welcomed the hot meals. A mother sheltering with her children thanked the agency and donors, saying her household had no income and needed the food. An older woman who had spent a long time in a displacement shelter also expressed hope that aid would continue.

The older recipient told ANTARA that people in the shelter were facing difficulty obtaining medicine, food and drinking water. These are accounts from individuals cited by the news agency. The report does not present an independent survey of humanitarian needs or food access across Gaza.

Baznas’ reported total of 875 family packages, each designed for four people, yields the agency’s estimate of 3,500 recipients. The distribution is one relief effort described by the Indonesian organisation, rather than a measure of the wider volume of aid reaching the territory.
