Italy’s diesel tax rises by 6.1 cents per litre as fuel discount ends

The 6.1-cent-per-litre diesel tax discount expires on October 6, and a decree needed for an offset has not been published.

From October 6, Italy’s diesel excise duty will rise by 6.1 euro cents per litre as the current tax discount ends. The mobile-excise mechanism will not offset the increase.

ANSA reports that the interministerial decree needed to use extra VAT revenue to reduce excise duties has not appeared in the Official Gazette. Fuel-tax cuts will therefore disappear entirely for the first time since March.
