The aircraft can reach speeds of 500 kilometres per hour and change altitude abruptly, complicating interception efforts.
Jet-powered drones are becoming a new threat to Ukrainian cities. They fly at high altitude and, according to Franceinfo, can travel about three times faster than conventional drones. Some models resemble missiles and can carry larger explosive payloads.
The report describes a strike on a residential district of Kyiv on September 9 that killed a woman and wounded several people. Maria, 85, was inside the building hit by the blast. She told reporters she was shaking and urged forces to intercept the drones before they reach residential areas.
Soldiers around Kyiv are using interceptor drones to counter the attacks. A member of the presidential brigade said those aircraft can reach speeds of up to 200 kilometres per hour, while jet-powered drones can travel at up to 500. One drone tracked in the report left the area without being intercepted.
Danylo “Oshki,” commander of the Symarhl unit in the Independent Presidential Brigade, said the drones are difficult to track because they move quickly and can climb or dive abruptly. Ukraine is testing faster interceptors. Until they are ready, volunteer brigades continue monitoring the sky.
