Krasnoyarsk’s emergency dispatch service received 88 reports of bears from Sept. 29 to Oct. 6, the city administration said. All reports came from neighborhoods bordering forested areas.
Residents reported seeing bears 17 times, while 71 reports concerned tracks, according to city officials. In the previous week, the city recorded 19 sightings and 103 reports of tracks.
Police mobile teams respond to calls. Two bears deemed dangerous were shot in the city’s Sverdlovsk district over the past week. Regional authorities have previously reported an increase in bears approaching settlements. Krasnoyarsk declared a heightened-readiness regime in early September.
