MasterChef Celebrity contestants pedal for baguettes in Paris-themed episode

Eleven celebrities made sandwiches in the themed show, while host Wanda Nara reflected on her years in France.

Contestants on a Paris-themed episode of MasterChef Celebrity first had to earn the main ingredient for their challenge. Each of the 11 participants spent three minutes pedalling the studio’s only exercise bike to get a baguette. They then had to make a sandwich with meat, vegetables, a dressing and a side, La Nación reported.

Host Wanda Nara said she had lived in Paris for almost four years but had not learned French and wanted to leave that period behind. The episode featured Alejandro Lerner, Campi, Mike Amigorena, Diego Ramos, Lizy Tagliani, Grego Rosello, Pablo Giralt, Karina Mazzocco, Julieta Nair Calvo, Vernaci and Sebastián Presta. Damián Betular, Germán Martitegui and Maru Botana judged the dishes.

Tagliani made a baguette with steak, sautéed vegetables and fries. The judges praised its combination of flavours. She recalled being embarrassed as a child to bring a heavily filled sandwich to school. Campi chose beef with Roquefort, but judges said the flavours did not work together. Karina Mazzocco’s chicken baguette with vegetables, avocado mayonnaise and pear was praised.

Vernaci made chicken with sautéed tomatoes, while Grego Rosello’s Caesar-style sandwich with bacon and lettuce lacked a clear sauce flavour. Judges also criticized the cut of the fries and an uncut chicken breast. Sebastián Presta served beef with cheese and onion, Lerner chose chicken, and Calvo made pork with Camembert. Diego Ramos received a positive assessment. Amigorena’s beef and mushroom baguette was called too simple, and Giralt’s tomato sandwich was judged dry. Campi, Calvo, Giralt, Lerner, Amigorena and Rosello received grey aprons.
