Mike Flanagan’s eight-part Carrie adaptation arrives on Prime Video October 7

Summer H. Howell stars in the new series based on Stephen King’s 1974 novel. King is an executive producer on the adaptation.

A new adaptation of Stephen King’s novel Carrie will premiere on Prime Video on October 7. The eight-episode series was created by Mike Flanagan, who has previously adapted King’s Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep and The Life of Chuck.

Canadian actor Summer H. Howell plays Carrie. Samantha Sloyan and Amber Midthunder are also in the cast. King is an executive producer on the series.

Published in 1974, Carrie follows a schoolgirl who discovers telekinetic powers after being bullied at school and abused by her mother. The book has been adapted for the screen twice before. Brian De Palma’s 1976 film is considered a horror classic, while the 2013 version starring Chloë Grace Moretz received a cooler response.

The series is Flanagan’s first project for Prime Video. HotNews reports that he is also developing an adaptation of King’s The Dark Tower for the platform, though no release date or cast has been announced.
