The New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) staged a flash mob on Wednesday at the port premises and City Centre Mall in Mangaluru, using music, dance and a Yakshagana performance to promote cleanliness and responsible waste management as part of Swachhata Pakhwada 2026.
The flash mob, organised by NMPA personnel, combined rhythmic music, coordinated movement and a traditional Yakshagana act to engage employees, stakeholders and passers‑by, delivering a clear message that keeping public spaces clean is a collective responsibility.
The event formed a centerpiece of the fortnight‑long Swachhata Pakhwada 2026 campaign, which the port authority launched to heighten awareness of hygiene, waste segregation and the dangers of littering across the region.
Beyond the flash mob, NMPA has been conducting a series of complementary activities, including street‑level cleanliness drives, plogging runs, beach clean‑ups, campaigns against single‑use plastic, visits for school children to a vermi‑compost unit, art‑from‑waste workshops, ‘wealth out of waste’ initiatives, a Swachhata rath rally and training sessions on up‑cycling scrap material.
The campaign has drawn active participation from a broad cross‑section of the community – NMPA officers and staff, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, local students and other stakeholders – underscoring the authority’s push to embed sustainable habits in everyday life.
Organisers said the flash mob and the wider set of activities aim to translate the Swachhata message into tangible behavioural change, encouraging citizens to adopt cleaner practices both within the port area and throughout Mangaluru’s public spaces.
