Opponents of the Paramount Skydance–Warner Bros. Discovery merger have asked the US Supreme Court to temporarily block the roughly $110 billion deal. Court documents say they want the transaction’s closing and integration halted until the court considers their petition to move the case to a higher court or issues a further order.
A federal court in California had earlier approved a settlement between several states and the companies, allowing the merger to proceed. The applicants are now asking Justice Elena Kagan to pause its implementation.
Netflix withdrew from its bid for Warner Bros. Discovery in late February after the company’s board deemed Paramount’s new offer more favourable than the streaming service’s proposal. Reuters later reported that Paramount acquired Warner Bros. Discovery for $110 billion.
