Parents file sexual-assault complaint against former cafeteria manager at Perpignan school

The parents of a student at Lycée Jean-Lurçat in Perpignan have filed a sexual-assault complaint against the former manager of the school cafeteria, Franceinfo reported, citing information from the Montpellier education authority. The allegation concerns a private contractor who ran the cafeteria. No finding of guilt has been reported, and the student’s identity has not been made public.

The school learned of the matter on January 8, when one student told the school’s senior education advisers about what a friend had confided to her. The school management then heard directly from the adolescent and later collected statements from other students who, according to the Montpellier academy, corroborated her account. The report does not detail the alleged incident.

The principal barred the contractor from entering the school and reported the matter to the prosecutor under Article 40 of France’s Code of Criminal Procedure. That provision requires public officials to refer information about a suspected crime to judicial authorities. The education authority said the school also began proceedings to end its contractual relationship with the company operating the cafeteria.

School officials informed the girl’s parents. They filed a complaint together with their daughter on January 21. The education authority said staff accompanied the adolescent as she returned to class so she could continue her schooling in the best possible conditions. The prosecutor’s office in Perpignan did not respond to ICI Roussillon’s request for comment.

The report describes allegations and steps taken by the school and education authorities. It does not say that the former contractor has been charged or convicted.
