Elena Blagoderova, manager of the Angels of Plushenko academy, confirmed that the school is paying figure skater Elena Kostyleva a stipend. The athlete’s mother had earlier said that the payments began in August and amount to 65,000 roubles a month.
Kostyleva, 14, is not competing this season because of health problems. Blagoderova said the academy decided to support her because she is going through a difficult period emotionally and has no competitions at which she could earn prize money.
Sport.ru reported the comments, citing Gazeta.ru. The report gave no further details about how long the stipend will continue or when Kostyleva might return to competition.
