Q-Cash maintenance disrupts card services at banks in Bangladesh

The payment switch used by around 30 banks is undergoing system migration scheduled to continue until noon on October 10.

Bangladesh’s Q-Cash network has temporarily restricted services during a system migration and technical upgrade. The maintenance began at 9pm on Sunday and is scheduled to continue until noon on October 10.

About 30 banks use the Q-Cash switch, Prothom Alo reported. Customers of banks without their own or a backup switch have faced interruptions to cash withdrawals and other card transactions. The report also describes problems with transfers, online purchases and overseas card use. Some banks with alternative infrastructure have continued operating.

Services listed as affected include bank cards and ATM transactions, point-of-sale payments, e-commerce, fund transfers, Bangla QR and mobile financial service cash-in and cash-out transactions.

Q-Cash and IT Consultants said the migration is intended to make services faster, safer and more efficient, and apologised to member banks and customers. Some banks said they were maintaining transactions through other switches or alternative channels.
