Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk and Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi agreed to continue work on joint projects. Moscow says bilateral trade rose 2.5-fold in the first seven months of 2026.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk discussed trade, energy, investment and cooperation on the International North-South Transport Corridor with Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. The Russian government’s press service reported the meeting.

The two sides agreed to continue intergovernmental dialogue on joint projects and to increase contacts between businesses in the two countries. Russia’s government said bilateral trade in the first seven months of 2026 was 2.5 times higher than in the same period a year earlier.

The officials also discussed opportunities for cooperation in energy and investment. The statement did not give details of specific agreements or a timetable for projects.
