Russia’s electric-car imports hit a September record

Russia imported 3,350 fully electric vehicles, excluding hybrids. Most were new, Avtostat said in figures reported by TASS.

Russia imported 3,350 fully electric cars in September, a record for the segment, Dmitry Yarygin, deputy head of analytics at Avtostat, said, according to TASS. Hybrids were excluded from the total.

Of the imported vehicles, 2,970 were new and 380 were used. The figures were presented at the CarX 26 forum and cover cars brought into the country from abroad during the first month of autumn.

Avtostat separately reported that domestic sales of used electric cars rose 60% year on year in January-August. That is a separate measure from September imports.

Lenta.ru linked the high import figure to rising demand amid fuel disruptions and reported shortages in some regions. The available independent material corroborates the import total and its record status, but does not establish one definitive cause for the change in demand.
