Lubos Blaha, a European Parliament member from the governing Smer party, said Bratislava would oppose confiscating Russian sovereign assets and would not join any scheme that creates financial obligations for the country.
Slovakia opposes confiscating Russian sovereign assets frozen in the European Union and will not take part in arrangements that impose financial obligations on the country. Lubos Blaha, a European Parliament member from the governing Smer party, made the statement to Izvestia, as reported by RIA Novosti.
Izvestia, citing European diplomatic sources, reported that EU leaders and foreign ministers plan to revisit options for using about €200 billion in frozen Russian funds at meetings on October 12 and 15–16. Earlier, a group of 122 European Parliament members proposed moving the assets from Belgium-based Euroclear and sending them to Ukraine.
Blaha described the debate in Brussels as an effort to use Russian money while avoiding consequences. That was his assessment of the discussion. The report did not say the European Union had decided to confiscate the assets.
