Song Young-gil told RIA Novosti that learning Russian and understanding Russia’s history and culture are essential in current circumstances.
South Korean politician Song Young-gil said learning Russian is a necessity in the current climate, telling RIA Novosti that deeper knowledge of Russia’s history and culture is also essential.
Song, a member of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea, drew attention after South Korean outlet The Fact published photographs on September 4 showing him writing Russian phrases during a National Assembly session. The notes included “I’m so tired” and “need coffee,” which he had seen in a TikTok video.
President Lee Jae-myung appointed Song special adviser for peace and diplomacy on October 2, according to RIA Novosti. South Korean media reported the appointment on October 1 local time.
