The singer made a surprise appearance in the actor’s opening monologue, playing the part of a supportive friend and unofficial therapist.
Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance during Dakota Johnson’s opening monologue on the 3 October edition of Saturday Night Live. The singer entered after Johnson briefly referred to two highly publicised break-ups with musicians.
Johnson introduced Swift as her “actual therapist”. Swift replied that she was not a therapist and joked that Johnson simply arrived at her house once a week with an empty wine bottle. Johnson extended the routine with a joke that dating musicians was saving the audience money on antidepressants.
Johnson was in a relationship with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin from 2017 to 2024 and previously dated Drowners singer Matthew Hitt. She also recently appeared in the Patient Zero music video, released as part of the expanded edition of Swift’s album The Life of a Showgirl.
In behind-the-scenes footage released through Apple Music, Johnson praised Swift’s work as a director. The SNL cameo adds another public collaboration between the two performers.
