Teen recounts panic aboard Flydubai flight returning from Japan

Amit Brashdasky, 17, says he tried to calm his younger sisters and filmed a sudden descent. Ynet and Yedioth Ahronoth published his account.

Amit Brashdasky, a 17-year-old from Hod Hasharon, described the flight that brought his family home from a three-week trip to Japan. He told Ynet and Yedioth Ahronoth that the aircraft suddenly lost altitude while passengers shouted. Seated with his sisters, Tamar, 15, and Mika, 12, he said he tried to reassure them.

Brashdasky said the three were not wearing seat belts when the descent began. Mika fainted, he recalled, and the force lifted him from his seat. He grabbed the seat handles, tried to help his sister and began recording because he feared the aircraft might crash.

He said the plane levelled off after about 40 seconds, then lost altitude again. According to his account, passengers shouted that a pilot had been injured and that someone else was flying the plane, while those in the cabin did not know what was happening in the cockpit. The article presents these as passengers’ impressions and does not independently confirm cockpit events.

Brashdasky said he sent the video to relatives and friends with a farewell message. The messages went through after the plane landed in Saudi Arabia, and the footage soon spread online. He said he wanted to explain what passengers experienced and clarify that the episode was not a quarrel between people of different nationalities.
