A court in Tiruvallur has sentenced a 28-year-old man to two life terms and 16 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a woman near Uthukottai in January 2025.
The Principal District and Sessions Court delivered the sentence on Friday after finding the man guilty. It also imposed a fine of ₹1.25 lakh, according to the case report.
The prosecution said the assault took place on January 6, 2025, when the woman was visiting a family member near Uthukottai. She was found injured by local residents, who took her to hospital.
Uthukottai All Women Police registered a case and arrested the accused. He was produced before a local court and remanded to Puzhal Central Prison while the case proceeded to trial in Tiruvallur.
J. Jaiganesh appeared for the prosecution. The court said it had examined the evidence before convicting the man and imposing the prison terms and fine.
