Reuters/Ipsos poll finds Trump approval stuck at a career low

Thirty-two percent of Americans approve of the president’s performance, including 24% of Hispanic respondents. Hispanic registered voters favor Democrats over Republicans by 52% to 26%.

President Donald Trump’s approval rating remained at a record low in a Reuters/Ipsos poll completed on October 5. Thirty-two percent of Americans approved of his performance, unchanged from September, when the measure reached the lowest point of Trump’s political career.

Approval among Hispanic Americans stood at 24%. With the November 3 midterm elections approaching, registered voters overall preferred Democrats to Republicans by 44% to 37%. Among independents, Democrats led 37% to 21%, while 28% had not yet decided.

Among Hispanic registered voters, 52% said they planned to vote for Democrats and 26% for Republicans, the widest Democratic advantage in that group since Trump took office, according to the poll. Cost of living was the leading issue for voters. Reuters’ report linked rising inflation to higher fuel prices following the U.S. war with Iran.

Republicans led Democrats by just two percentage points among voters aged 50 and older, 44% to 42%, compared with an eight-point Republican advantage in December. Among voters under 50, Democrats led by 18 points.

The nationwide online poll surveyed 4,506 U.S. adults and had a margin of error of about two percentage points.
