Ayfer Çakmak, 32, was shot with a hunting rifle on the stairs of a residential building in Diyarbakır’s Bağlar district. Her 37-year-old husband, Osman Çakmak, was arrested on suspicion of intentional murder, Sözcü reported.
The incident took place on September 25 in the 5 Nisan neighbourhood after an argument between the couple, according to the report. As Ayfer tried to leave the home, Osman took a shotgun and fired at her on the building’s stairs. Neighbours alerted police and medical teams after hearing gunshots.
Responding health workers pronounced Ayfer dead at the scene. Her body was taken to a forensic medicine facility for an autopsy.
Police detained the suspect shortly after the incident. Following questioning, he was brought before a judge under heightened security and remanded in custody on an intentional murder charge. The investigation is continuing.
