A resident of Yekaterinburg said an ATM accepted his cash, displayed an error and failed to credit the money to his debit card. The incident happened on October 1, according to E1.RU, and the bank had not yet responded to his complaint.
The man was trying to add cash to his debit card. He said the machine took between 150,000 and 180,000 rubles, began processing the transaction and then reported a malfunction. The cash was not returned and the account was not credited.
He contacted the bank immediately. The bank said it would review the complaint, but he had not received a response by the time of the report. E1.RU said such funds are usually returned later, although the timing depends on how the bank resolves the dispute.
The report also cited legal scholar Vadim Vinogradov, who said reviews of failed ATM transactions should take no more than 30 days for domestic operations and 60 days for cross-border transactions. He has previously advised customers to contact their bank if cash is not dispensed after an account debit.
