Washington has proposed a trilateral meeting with Ukraine and Russia at a technical level before the end of October, President Volodymyr Zelensky said. Kyiv is ready to take part, he said, but no date or Russian acceptance has been announced.
Zelensky said he spoke with the U.S. negotiating team on Saturday. According to the Ukrainian president, Washington said it was contacting both Kyiv and Moscow and proposed a trilateral meeting before the end of October. He said Ukraine had confirmed its readiness to participate.
The statement describes a proposal, not an agreed meeting. No date or location was announced, and Zelensky did not say that Russia had accepted.
Moscow has previously said it was prepared to resume talks on the basis of agreements reached in Istanbul. On September 11, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia hoped to hold a trilateral meeting with Ukraine and the United States in the foreseeable future. He later said talks could take place in October.
The sides have continued to differ over the terms of a settlement, and no new meeting has been agreed. The next step depends on Moscow’s response and whether the parties can settle on a format.
