Zimbabwe helicopter crash kills businessman Wicknell Chivayo and wife

All five people aboard died in the crash near Marondera. The cause has not been established.

Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy “Lulu” Muteke, were among five people killed when a helicopter crashed near Marondera, about 72 kilometres east of Harare. Police said there were no survivors.

The aircraft crashed at about 5 p.m. local time and caught fire. Authorities confirmed the identities of the victims. The cause remains unknown, and investigators and aviation experts are working at the scene.

Chivayo was one of Zimbabwe’s best-known business figures, having made his fortune in energy and infrastructure projects. He often displayed luxury cars and private aircraft on social media.

The report also mentioned two separate recent helicopter crashes: one in Chatsworth, Los Angeles, on September 16, which killed three people and injured another, and a September 27 crash in Quebec that killed all four people aboard. NBC Los Angeles confirmed that the aircraft in the California crash belonged to Chivayo.
