62 earthquakes recorded off Kamchatka in a week

Six tremors were felt in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at intensities of up to four points. The Russian Academy of Sciences’ Geophysical Survey located the activity in one Pacific zone more than 200 kilometres from the city.

Seismologists recorded 62 earthquakes off the Kamchatka coast over the past week. Six were felt in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, with intensities of up to four points, the regional emergency ministry said.

Ten earthquakes occurred in the past 24 hours. One was felt in some parts of the city at up to two points. A day earlier, 34 imperceptible seismic events and two weakly felt tremors were recorded.

The Kamchatka branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Geophysical Survey said the earthquakes came from the same area of the Pacific Ocean, more than 200 kilometres southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
