A 7-1 defeat ends Switzerland U21’s hopes of reaching Euro 2027

Switzerland’s under-21 team suffered a heavy loss to France in its final qualifying match and will miss the 2027 European Championship. Iceland beat the Faroe Islands in a parallel game to take the playoff place.

Switzerland’s under-21 team lost 7-1 to France in the final round of qualifying for the European Championship and will not reach the finals, Swiss broadcaster SRF reported.

France led 2-0 in Orléans after 15 minutes, with goals from Mathys Tel and Noé Lebreton. Switzerland gradually settled into the match, but Tel scored again before halftime after a defensive error.

Dehmaine Tabibou made it 4-0 after the break, and Tel completed his hat trick. Steve Ngoura and Kevin Danois added two more goals. Liam Chipperfield scored Switzerland’s only goal with a long-range shot.

Switzerland’s position also depended on the parallel match: Iceland beat the Faroe Islands and displaced Switzerland from second place, which would have secured a playoff berth. Switzerland therefore failed to qualify for the 2027 tournament in Albania and Serbia.
