Residents have urged Tambaram traffic police to set up a booth and deploy officers at a junction where, they say, drivers frequently run red lights.
Residents of Pudhupakkam have asked the Traffic Wing of the Tambaram Police Commissionerate to establish a police booth and deploy personnel at a junction they consider prone to accidents, The Hindu reported.
Motorists say drivers often disregard traffic signals. Vehicles from Kelambakkam and Pudhupakkam cross while traffic continues along Vandalur–Kelambakkam Road. A. Kumar, a motorist, urged drivers to slow down and check in all directions, saying many pay little attention to traffic rules.
Residents also point to the lack of speed breakers and say the signals do not keep traffic moving in an orderly way. K. Anand said motorists often proceed at their own discretion, creating confusion.
They say pedestrians face added danger when their signal is on at the same time as vehicles from Siruseri and Pudhupakkam are allowed to turn toward Kelambakkam and Mambakkam. Some drivers change lanes to get through quickly, while pedestrians may cross the median amid moving traffic.
