India and Canada hold new security dialogue

Ajit Doval and David Morrison discussed law-enforcement cooperation as the countries continue trade negotiations.

India and Canada held another round of security dialogue, with Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval hosting his Canadian counterpart David Morrison in New Delhi, The Times of India reported. Morrison is a senior diplomatic and international affairs adviser to Canada’s prime minister.

The two sides reviewed bilateral security and law-enforcement cooperation and agreed to identify additional areas for practical work. At a previous round in February, the countries agreed on a national-security roadmap and to appoint liaison officers to facilitate timely information-sharing on drug flows and transnational organised crime.

The meeting took place during the fifth round of talks on a mutually beneficial economic partnership agreement. Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand is expected to visit India later in October. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi may visit Ottawa in December.
