Lawmakers elected in Brazil’s October 4 vote declared a combined 2.3 billion reais in assets, CNN Brasil reported, citing figures from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). The total comprises 1.8 billion reais declared by 513 deputies and 409 million reais declared by 54 senators.
According to the report, 309 deputies, or 60.23% of the total, and 41 senators, or 75.93%, declared assets worth at least 1 million reais. The TSE collects candidates’ asset information through its DivulgaCandContas system. The figures are submitted declarations, not independent estimates of market value.
Among deputies, re-elected Jadyel Alencar of Republicanos in Piauí declared the largest amount, 107 million reais. In 2022 he declared 128 million, 21.4 million more. Re-elected Duda Ramos of Podemos in Roraima ranked second with 78 million reais, followed by newly elected deputy Newton Bonin of Republicanos in Paraná with 75 million.
The highest-ranking senator in the report was former Mato Grosso governor Mauro Mendes, who declared 67 million reais and placed sixth among all legislators. The Liberal Party (PL) had the largest number of elected Congress members with millionaire declarations: 85 out of 140 elected from the party.
