Three people were arrested in Porto de Moz with cash, campaign materials and notes linked to a campaign. In Marabá, police are investigating suspected fuel-for-votes activity. A person was also taken in for a report in a separate case.
Brazil’s Federal Police are investigating three suspected election offenses recorded on October 4 during the first round of voting in Pará state. The cases were reported in the towns of Porto de Moz and Marabá and involve suspected vote buying, improper fuel distribution and campaigning on election day.
In Porto de Moz, officers acted after a referral from the Electoral Prosecutor’s Office. Three people were arrested with cash, campaign materials and a notebook containing entries related to a campaign. The suspects and seized items were taken to the town’s Civil Police station.
In Marabá, Federal Police seized campaign materials belonging to a candidate suspected of offering fuel for vehicles in exchange for votes. Investigators are also examining a possible fuel-donation authorization signed by the chief of staff of a local politician. No one was arrested in that case.
In a third case, Federal Police assisted with a check following a complaint to the Electoral Prosecutor’s Office about possible campaigning near a polling place. Officers found campaign materials and 106 reais. The person was taken in for a simplified incident report.
