Users of SISP Cidadão filed 150 election-related reports from October 1 to 4, including suspected vote buying and illegal street campaigning. State authorities said 58 reports received a total of 74 confirmations from other users.
SISP Cidadão, an app connected to the Rio de Janeiro state public security department, recorded 150 reports related to the electoral process between October 1 and 4. The period included the eve and day of the first round, when Brazilian election law restricts street campaigning.
The reports most often concerned suspected vote buying and irregular campaigning in the streets. The app also accepts reports about activity on the internet, social networks and messaging services.
According to the department, 58 of the 150 reports received at least one confirmation from another citizen, for 74 confirmations in total. Authorities recorded no cases in which other users marked a report as unconfirmed.
The app uses artificial intelligence to classify a report based on the user’s description. The user reviews the suggested category before submitting it. The department uses SISP Cidadão data to monitor the electoral process.
