Alcaraz beat Jiri Lehecka in straight sets for his first individual title since February; Sinner will focus on treatment and recovery.
Carlos Alcaraz won the Japan Open in Tokyo, defeating Jiri Lehecka 7-6, 6-4 for his first individual title since February. The Spaniard, playing only his third tournament since returning from a wrist injury that kept him out for four and a half months, recovered from a 1-3 deficit against the Czech, who is ranked 19th. Alcaraz won five consecutive points in the first-set tiebreak after trailing 2-4, then broke Lehecka in the seventh game of the second set.
It was Alcaraz’s second consecutive title in the Japanese capital. He said he had not found his best level throughout the week but was pleased to find solutions, and described the final as his most consistent match of the tournament. He opened the season by winning the Australian Open, his seventh major title, to complete a career Grand Slam, then won in Doha before his injury layoff.
Separately, Jannik Sinner’s team confirmed on Tuesday that the Italian would miss the rest of the 2026 season because of inflammation in his knee. The team said he would follow treatment on medical advice to recover before preparations for 2027.
