Stanislav Cherchesov said he would vote to abolish VAR in a hypothetical Russian Football Union poll of Russian Premier League coaches. He would keep offside technology and goal-line technology.
In an interview with Sport-Express, the Akhmat head coach was asked how he would answer a question about scrapping video assistant referees. “If I had three hands, I would raise them all,” Cherchesov said, explaining that he meant a vote to abolish VAR.
He would make two exceptions: offside technology and the system that determines whether the ball has crossed the goal line. The coach said he would remove all other video technology.
Cherchesov added that referees still make disputed decisions after reviewing replays, and those decisions may later be deemed wrong. He did not cite specific incidents. His answer referred to a hypothetical poll, not a vote that had taken place.
