Ukrainian authorities reported 28 people killed in Russian attacks on October 7. A missile hit a residential building in Pryluky, Chernihiv region, killing 20 people, including five children.

The blast destroyed about half of the apartment building and shattered windows in nearby homes. Ukrainian officials said five of those killed in Pryluky were children. Three were about one year old and another was eight. Rescuers recovered the body of a fifth child from the rubble later in the evening.

Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi put the nationwide death toll at 28. Twenty people were killed in Pryluky. The Associated Press had earlier reported preliminary figures of 25 deaths across Ukraine and 19 in Pryluky, reflecting updates as rescue work continued.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said dozens of people were injured, including seven children. Regional officials put the number wounded in Pryluky at about 50. Ukraine said the attack affected 12 regions. Its Air Force reported intercepting five ballistic missiles, 39 cruise missiles and more than 100 drones.

Zelenskyy accused Moscow of deliberately striking residential areas and called the use of missiles against civilians a “deliberate choice of terror.” He said energy infrastructure was among the targets. Russia had not commented in the reports cited.
