Delhi’s Economic Finance Committee has approved a 4.5-kilometre drain costing ₹263 crore. The project is intended to reduce waterlogging in four constituencies, including Kirari, and is scheduled for completion by December 2027.
The Economic Finance Committee (EFC), chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, approved the project on Tuesday. An official release from the Chief Minister’s Office said the drain would be 4.5 km long and cost ₹263 crore, with completion expected by December 2027.
Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh and senior department officials attended the meeting at the Delhi Secretariat. Singh said areas in the Mundka, Bawana, Nangloi Jat and Kirari constituencies would benefit, along with around 70 unauthorised colonies in Kirari.
Gupta described the project as a step towards better drainage and safer mobility for residents. She said the government aims to address waterlogging through a stronger drainage network rather than relying only on temporary measures.
