Euractiv, citing an unnamed European diplomat, reported that officials in Brussels do not expect Ukraine to join the EU by the end of the decade. The comment was one source’s assessment, not an EU decision.
The diplomat said he did not believe Ukraine would become a member by the end of 2030 and did not rule out that it might never join. He said the EU should stop giving Kyiv false expectations about the timetable.
Lenta.ru’s account of the Euractiv report also referred to earlier Ukrainian media reports about talks on a special path for integration into the bloc. Those reports said a document proposed a special arrangement for the agricultural sector.
The account gave no specific terms for such an arrangement. The view on Ukraine’s accession prospects came from one unnamed diplomat and does not by itself represent the official position of EU institutions or all member states.
