The body of 20-year-old Himashri Boro was found beside railway tracks in Andhra Pradesh. Her family suspects murder, while a preliminary railway police inquiry says she may have fallen from a moving train.
Himashri Boro, a student from Assam, was travelling alone on the Vivek Express from Visakhapatnam to Guwahati after taking part in a dance competition. The Times of India and other Indian outlets reported that her family lost contact with her in the early hours of October 6. Her body was found beside railway tracks in Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh. Reports give her age as 20.
Relatives said Boro called them before she disappeared and told them she felt uncomfortable in a crowded coach with intoxicated men. They said she also sent a friend a video from inside the coach. Her family has alleged murder and called for an investigation into the conduct of Railway Protection Force personnel. Those claims are the family’s account and have not been established by investigators.
The Northeast Frontier Railway said it received a Rail Madad complaint on October 6 about alleged misbehaviour toward a woman passenger. RPF personnel checked the general and sleeper coaches at Srikakulam Road station but did not find Boro. Railway police said a preliminary inquiry suggested she might have fallen from a moving train. The cause of death has not been established.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage from Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam stations and recording statements from passengers and the person who accompanied Boro to the station. Her body was taken to a government hospital in Srikakulam for an inquest and autopsy. The investigation is continuing, and the circumstances of her disappearance and death remain unresolved.
