Nyoro made the call on Thursday, September 17, 2026, during a visit to Isiolo, where he met residents and local leaders as anger and concern over the attack grew. He said restoring security is a fundamental responsibility of government. “Security must be restored in Isiolo County. The basic reason for existence of government is to guarantee security and this must be so in Isiolo,” Nyoro said.
The five were killed on Wednesday when a team pursuing suspected livestock thieves was ambushed by armed attackers in Gotu. The victims were part of efforts to deal with livestock theft. Police said the assailants fled before responding security officers arrived, prompting a fresh security operation in the area.
Eastern Regional Police Commander Stephen Chebet led a security team to Gotu following the killings. The attack has renewed calls for stronger security measures in the county, with local leaders demanding urgent intervention to prevent further loss of life.
Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo described the killings as “deeply saddening and unacceptable” and called for stronger security operations, patrols and intelligence gathering in Gotu and neighbouring areas.
During his tour, Nyoro visited areas including Bultin Nagga, Nagenin Badada, Yooyah and Amale Yooya, where he engaged residents and local leaders. Chari Ward MCA Abdullahi Golicha Meja and Wabera Ward MCA Salesio Kiambi were among the leaders who attended. Nyoro thanked residents for hosting his team but kept his message focused on the security crisis facing the county.
