The bus rammed into the side of the building on Eastern Parkway near Albany Avenue around 7:20 a.m., according to police and law enforcement sources. Before the impact, it struck a tree and careened into a service road.
Dramatic video shows the bus screeching and sending a puff of smoke into the air when it hit the building. The video also showed masonry from the structure falling onto the bus.
The 65-year-old man behind the wheel was unscathed and refused medical attention at the scene, authorities said. The driver, who was not identified, was initially hauled off in handcuffs, but police confirmed several hours later that he would not be charged.
Photos show the facade of the building was left in bad shape. It was unclear where the driver was headed when he crashed, and the cause of the collision remained unclear Thursday evening.
