Uffizi Says No Damage After Storm Water Infiltration Near Caravaggio's Bacchus

A storm that dropped more than 45 millimeters of rain in an hour over Florence this afternoon caused water to infiltrate the Uffizi Galleries beneath the skylight of a room housing seven 17th-century paintings, including Caravaggio's Bacchus, the museum said.

The infiltration splashed water onto the outer glass of the protective case holding Bacchus, according to the museum. The room also displays other 17th-century works.

The museum said that after the necessary checks, no damage was found to any of the works. The water had wet only the exterior glass of the Bacchus display case with splashes.

The room will reopen from tomorrow morning, the museum said.
