Sherman described Allen shivering in a hot tub and receiving intravenous fluids before asking how it felt to deliver the performance while ill. Allen’s response was brief: he was simply trying to do his job.
The quarterback finished with 248 passing yards. His second-quarter touchdown pass to tight end Dawson Knox put Buffalo ahead 21-0 and helped Allen reach a pair of milestones across the opening two games of the season.
According to ESPN, Allen became the first quarterback since 1960 to record at least three passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns over a season’s first two games. Bills PR also credited him as the first player in NFL history with at least five touchdown passes and three rushing scores in that opening two-game span.
The victory made Joe Brady the first Bills coach to begin his head-coaching career with two wins. Brady praised Allen’s effort afterward, saying the quarterback had given everything he had and carried the team through several situations.
Allen entered the room while Brady was discussing him, prompting a joke from the coach before he reiterated his admiration for the quarterback. Buffalo next hosts the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3, giving Allen time to recover before the next game.
