Acting IEBC Chief Executive Officer and Commission Secretary Ruth Kulundu signed the circular that reassigns senior election officials across the country, signalling a push to solidify the commission’s field structure ahead of the upcoming poll.
Among the transfers, Beatrice Muli is moving from Kiambu County to Taita‑Taveta, Hudson Salenoi from Vihiga to Turkana, Rebecca Abwaku from Homa Bay to Trans Nzoia, and Reuben Mbuu from Makueni to neighbouring Kitui. Other moves include Amosi Chilai from Nairobi to Kakamega, Japheth Lagat from Trans Nzoia to West Pokot, Grace Anyang from Migori to Kericho, Husna Hassa from Mombasa to Kilifi, Zahara Hassan from Mandera to Wajir, Sheikh Abdi from Wajir to Garissa, Engor Emmanuel from Turkana to Narok, Frank Boinet from Elgeyo‑Marakwet to Baringo, Sidney Namulungu from Kericho to Marsabit, John Mwangi from Baringo to Kirinyaga and Saumu Chirchir from Murang’a to Bomet.
The reshuffle comes as the IEBC has formally published the election timetable, laying out statutory deadlines for voter registration, party nominations, campaign periods and other key electoral processes for the 2027 election.
In parallel, the commission is accelerating other preparatory activities, including nationwide voter registration drives, procurement of electoral technology, voter‑education campaigns and budgeting for the 2026/27 financial year, which earmarks funds for enhanced registration, verification and election materials.
Kulundu has been overseeing the IEBC secretariat as acting CEO and Commission Secretary since 5 August 2026, after the six‑month acting tenure of Moses Ledama Sunkuli ended on 4 August 2026. Her appointment is temporary, lasting two months or until a substantive CEO is named.
The transferred officials are expected to assume their new responsibilities promptly, bolstering the commission’s operational capacity as the country moves toward what is anticipated to be one of Kenya’s most closely watched electoral exercises.
