INPS announced in a formal note that it is starting a campaign of checks aimed at guaranteeing the correct disbursement of the Assegno Unico and safeguarding public resources. The institute said the checks focus on possible mismatches between the incomes reported in the Dichiarazione Sostitutiva Unica (DSU) and data held in its archives.
The agency highlighted that some DSU submissions contain “omissions or incongruities” in the self‑declared income figures. For those cases, INPS may issue a “rideterminazione” – a temporary re‑determination of the allowance amount – while the file is being regularised and the investigation completed.
Affected families will receive an individual communication in the coming days. The notice will explain that, pending the regularisation of their position, the monthly Assegno Unico could be adjusted according to the rules that apply when a valid ISEE is missing, with any changes taking effect from the September 2026 payment cycle.
In July 2026, beneficiaries who had not submitted an ISEE received a flat €58 per child. At that time, just under 4.8 million children fell into the lowest ISEE bracket (up to €17,468.51) out of roughly 9.3 million children who were paid the allowance that month.
INPS instructed recipients who believe their DSU data need correction to use the institute’s online services, contact a CAF (tax assistance centre), or visit the competent territorial office to submit supporting documentation. The agency stressed that being flagged for review does not automatically imply an undue receipt; the checks are intended to verify the accuracy and completeness of the information used to calculate the benefit.
The institute reiterated that it routinely carries out control and prevention activities to ensure that social benefits reach only those entitled to them, preserving the equity of the welfare system and the proper use of public funds.
