In a note released to the press, INPS said the checks are part of its routine activities aimed at guaranteeing the correct delivery of social benefits and safeguarding public resources. The institute identified “incongruences” in a number of DSU (Dichiarazione Sostitutiva Unica) submissions concerning declared incomes.
Beneficiaries whose DSU data appear irregular will receive an individual communication in the coming days. The notice will explain the reasons for the intervention, outline possible effects on the allowance, and describe how recipients can update or confirm the information they provided.
If the position is not regularised and the assessment is not completed, INPS warned that the amount of the Assegno Unico could be temporarily re‑determined according to the law, in the absence of a valid ISEE. The re‑determination could affect monthly payments starting in September 2026.
For families that did not submit an ISEE, the July 2026 monthly amount per child was €58. In the same month, just under 4.8 million of the 9.3 million children receiving the allowance fell into the lowest ISEE bracket (up to €17,468.51).
INPS urged recipients who need to correct or update their DSU data to use the institute’s dedicated online services, contact a CAF (tax assistance centre), or visit the competent territorial offices to provide supporting documentation.
The institute stressed that the identification of a case for further scrutiny does not automatically imply an undue receipt. The checks are intended to verify the accuracy and completeness of the data used to calculate the Assegno Unico, ensuring that benefits are granted only to those entitled to them and that public funds are allocated equitably.
INPS reiterated its commitment to systematic control and prevention of improper payments, aiming to protect the integrity of the welfare system while ensuring that eligible families receive the full amount they are owed.
